The Copper Hearth was a bar/restaurant on the north side of Milwaukee, WI from 1952 to 1987. New owners John and Mary Korinek renamed the place in late 1964 from its previous “Clark’s Woods.” John Korinek, Jr. formed the softball team shortly after, and in the ensuing eleven years it became the pre-eminent team in the city and entire region, winning numerous tournaments in different states as well as the Big 8 Classic Softball League in Milwaukee year after year. In 1969, Copper Hearth won the ASA (Amateur Softball Association) Men’s Open Slow Pitch National Tournament at Parma, Ohio – the only team from the state to ever win the title. They achieved a second place finish the following year. Finally, in 1977, a natural progression took place with the formation of the American Professional Slo-Pitch League (APSPL) and Copper Hearth officially became a charter member.
